New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2021 Highlights

Below are designers and houses which I may have only micro-blogged on in addition to those linked to posts. In the Spring/Summer 2021 collection, I feel as if Tomo Koizumi has a very clear albeit repetitive motif with this fabric manipulation, but the designer(s) should be conscious of silhouette and the natural waistline in the…

Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2021

The star of the Rebecca Minkoff Spring/Summer 2021 New York Fashion Week collection was, of course, the bags! I once had a Convertible backpack like the one in this collection- it doubles as a hobo which is just so versatile it would be the envy of the gays. Here, it was paired with a leopard…

Bibhu Mohapatra Spring 2021

Bibhu Mohapatra Spring/Summer 2021 collection remains true to the designer’s aesthetic- timeless, glamorous, perfectly executed and constructed garments which still manage to be unique and original without looking over-designed or forced. The chartreuse criss-cross gathered leg-of-mutton sleeved bodice and open-weave-skirt dress, chartreuse-yellow pleated tulle peplum skirt and black satin gathered asymmetrical top, chartreuse mini dress,…

Private Policy Spring 2021

Private Policy’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection was a well executed, perfectly edited and cohesive yet still design-playful collection in its exploration of fashion when met with color palette, graphic prints, utility and wearability: beyond the now common utilitarian pockets- straps, buttons, and harnesses allow the garments to be worn and carried in a more versatile way….

Vivetta Fall 2019

Jeepers Kreepers…why’d they cut out peepers? Jeepers kreepers…hats just don’t need eyes. Vivetta presented questionable, plagiarized, and brilliantly conceived and executed designs for Fall 2019. While I hate the peephole hats and poor copy of Jeremy Scott’s teddy bear designs, I found the embellished florals with Lilly of the Valley appliqué absolutely remarkable.

Fabulous Fashion: Dior’s New Look To Now Exhibit

The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s exhibit was certainly titled appropriately, abounding with fabulous fashion from post war era to modern times. Upon entering, I was greeted with Dior’s New Look, the inspiration for the exhibition, which changed the silhouette and hemline of wartime garments back to full skirts, cinched waists, and floor lengths as a…

Fendi Spring/Summer 2018

Fendi Spring/Summer 2018 featured striped chevron print off-the-shoulder dresses, a continuation of the bag and bag-accessory evolution with unique strap details including prints and frimge, cut-outs, sheared fur in intricate prints and textures, and an interesting use of fabric selection. Pointed and peep-toe heels were paired with plaid and striped stockings. Models were given blue…

Lee Jeans: Body Optix Eye Tricks

Lasers will play tricks on your eyes as fashion moves foreard toward an even more misleading development: Lee Jeans will use “an algorithm [which] calculates a pattern that is applied onto the fabric via laser technology, creating optical effects which trick the brain into seeing what isn’t really there.”  According to WWD’s Paulina Szymydke Cacciapalle,…

Antonio Berardi SS18 Spring/Summer 2018 SS18

Antonio Berardi SS18 Spring/Summer 2018 was a sophisticated collection- layered hemlines, bias cut draped assemetrical tops and dresses, unique blazers, cut-outs, silhouette and proportion play, and contrasting sheer and opaque fabrics made for an elevated and well executed fashion show.

Jenny Peckham Spring/Summer 2018 SS18

Jenny Peckham Spring/Summer 2018 exudes opulent glamorous femininity with sumptuous gowns exquisitely embellished and embroidered in a celebration of a collection.
