Le Gitan (The Gypsy) Fall CLO3D Fashion Show by Fashion Designer Perry Uwanawich, created in Marvelous Designer 11 and After Effects. I wanted to design a capsule collection that represents where the Gypsies, Rom, my people, descended from and migrated to, from Asia (India to China/Korea/Japan, etc.) to Europe, Spain, and the United States. The garments are representative of that heritage, including Kurtas, Saris, the Gee, a Flamenco-inspired ruffle skirt with a peasant blouse, and then reflecting on how much work is left to be done for women’s rights, represented in the skirt-pant-hybrid, because women are still expected to cover up and wear long skirts. There’s also a recurring motif of the caterpillar and butterfly in my work, and here it’s represented in the chrysalis coat, which has a print reflective of a cocoon’s. I also wanted to represent the notion of Fall from the perspective of various climates- noting my own upbringing in the Northeast and Florida, as well as the inspiration of India’s temperate climate. I drew from an urban influence that was prevalent in my youth for menswear, hinting at the way men would wear a T-shirt draped over their shoulders with a tank top underneath. I also love asymmetry and this capsule collection is representative of that- from the asymmetrical draping of the tees to the spiraling ruffle of the flamenco dress.
All of the designs and fabric prints are my own original work and concepts. I wanted to test out CLO3D‘s Marvelous Designer 11, as I’ve used various iterations of the 3D CAD Fashion modeling software in the past, probably starting with Marvelous Designer 2. I feel like it’s much faster and runs smoother on smaller computers such as my laptop- before it would freeze a computer with higher capacity than this. There are still glitchy collision issues, but they can be edited out if you have a lot of patience, however, I gave up with a few of the sleeves and skirts because this was just a project for fun and to test the latest version of Marvelous Designer.
