Private Policy Spring 2021

Private Policy’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection was a well executed, perfectly edited and cohesive yet still design-playful collection in its exploration of fashion when met with color palette, graphic prints, utility and wearability: beyond the now common utilitarian pockets- straps, buttons, and harnesses allow the garments to be worn and carried in a more versatile way….

Moon Choi Fall 2019

Moon Choi Fall 2019: draped shirts and crossed lapels; split pleated sleeves; and a warm palette of wine, golden rod, neutral taupe, grey and black.

Coach 1941 Fall 2019

The Coach 1941 Fall 2019 collection was a youthful interpretation of 50’s and Western influences with fringe platform creepers and a fresh take on moccasins; checkered polos, plaid shirts and matching sheer pants; coats with western flare yokes; vibrant colors including blues, lime green, fuchsia, and aquamarine contrasting wine, deep brown, and black; the fabric…

Helmut Lang Fall 2019

Helmut Lang’s Fall 2019 collection was like a cool take on a retrospective notion of modernity: the transparent coat, shear tops and pants with contrasting fabric pocket exposed from the layer beneath, unique straps with hook and eye closures-some in silver lamé- were details that made the collection stand out. I will definitely be sewing…

Dion Lee Fall 2019

Dion Lee Fall 2019 presented amazing undulating knits contour with the body, curving around the shoulders, weaving under and over pieces of the top, revealing slight glimpses of skin through keyholes; jackets with cutouts revealing corsets; a cutout dress fits perfectly together with a turtleneck shrug; uniquely curved vining in tops was an interesting take…

Sies Marjan Fall 2019

Sies Marjan Fall 2019 combined menswear tailoring with the most feminine and light hand, juxtaposing a navy leather suit with an off the shoulder trench; softly darted key lime suit jacket and relaxed trousers; double layered emerald silky satin top with gathered collar, sleeve cap, and waist; and floor length black dress seemingly in a…

Fall 2019 Fashion Week Trend: Utilitarian

Utilitarian garments, pockets, and bags dominated the Fall 2019 Fashion Week runway. Oversized patch pockets with flaps or zippers, pouches draping off different areas of the body, and gargantuan bags such as Derek Lam‘s and Ovadia & Sons’ meet consumers’ growing need to carry their expanding essentials; phones, tablets, e-cigarettes, makeup, wallets, fragrance atomizers, skincare…

NIHL: (Porno)Graphic T-Shirt Publicity Stunt

(Porno)Graphic T-shirts I try not to discuss designers and collections who use publicity stunts on the runway to force the penned hands of the press…but it’s not every day porn walks down the runway. NIHL actually sent censored pornographic T-shirt’s down the catwalk. Other features of the menswear collection featured circular cutouts, zippers which coiled…

Labyrinth: 3D Fashion Show Spring/Summer 2019 SS18

3D fashion show inspired by the 50’s, unrequited love and yellow flowers (tabebuia), love and heartbreak. Butterflies and Moths translated into literal and abstract prints, with some pattern pieces and garments mirroring the shapes of the wings, as well as appliques. I chose to embody the different styles that came out of the fifties, the sock hoppers, greasers, beatniks and the glamour evoked by old Hollywood.I chose to embody the different styles that came out of the fifties, the sock hoppers, greasers, beatniks and the glamour evoked by old Hollywood.

Roberto Cavalli Pre-Fall 2018

The Roberto Cavalli Pre-Fall 2018 collection marks a shift in the brand’s visual style.  It seems that Paul Surridge, the new creative director (Vogue ’18), succeeds in taming the wild animal that is Cavalli and its prints- almost everything is salable, marketable, wearable.  There is a marked difference between this and recent Cavalli collections which really…
