Vera Wang Fall/Winter 2016 New York Fashion Week NYFW MBFW FW16

Vera Wang’s Fall/Winter 2016 New York Fashion Week  collection was inspired by fencing, which made for a structured, strappy, seamed and topstitched, fabulously hard-edged look.  She said, in her interview with WWD, that she wanted the palette and prints to be muted, the antithesis of bold and colorful; the palette was mostly black, but included white, army green and brown, mustard, mauve, and bronze.  The thick and structured was contrasted drastically by soft and sheer.  My only complaints are that the sheer dresses might have looked better over slips, and that the furs looked like bulky beavers, something I’ve previously critiqued Vera for- the placement and volume is just off-putting in terms of silhouette, not to mention grotesque.  The Vera Wang NYFW MBFW FW16 collection was fashion-forward, original and cool…I just wish designers would stop using fur, especially when it’s not aesthetically pleasing.
