Milan Fashion Week Fall 2020 FW20 AH20

Below you’ll find my favorite looks and pieces from various Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020 runway shows and collections from designers such as Dolce and Gabbana, Moschino, Gabriele Colangelo, and more.

Dolce and Gabbana’s tailored jackets caught my eye- I love a double lapel as much as a collar, and can appreciate the combination of suiting fabrics/prints and the seemingly subtle color variations…but let’s not bring up the sunglasses ok?

Botega Veneta’s open weave knit top and leather fringe bag were striking and unusual.

Gabriele Colangelo Fall 2020 collection proves the designer obviously loves the craft of sewing and creating. The princess seam, the thread tails and stitching were such organic touches that gave the collection a hand-sewn feel. The fabric manipulation of the leather looks expertly executed, with this effortless drape and

Marco De Vincenzo‘s Fall 2020 tops, “embroidered and beaded” according to Vogue, captured a “magician’s hand” we all know is really Sailor Moon’s! But, let us appreciate the work and craftsmanship that went into not only these pieces, but the design process, which apparently included photocopier experimentation. Speaking of Sailor Moon, there’s a second surge of licensed products- the latest being a Colour Pop collection.

Moncler 8 Fall 2020: wacky as Wonka, this collection is so OTT with feather wig hats, big bold prints, bodysuits, and the now iconic puffer gowns but in an unapologetically high-fashion campy kind of way.

Wreck on the Runway: I honestly try hard not to rip designers to shreds anymore, but Vivetta Fall 2020 is freaking asking for it! What the fuck am I looking at? Certainly not design: Gingham, embellishment, embroidery, infantile graphic elements contrasting political statements- and that’s one look! Girl, this is made for psycho Joy what’s-her-face? That crafts wearing fashion victim is the only one in this target market. The irony in the designers statement is hilarious: “With everything going on in the world, it didn’t feel right to propose complicated, overdone looks (Vogue).” I mean, printed faux-fur, FarmVille muumuu dresses paired with thigh high rain boots, and yes bitch, some hairy clouds. If you can find Waldo on that dress, you make it back to sanity. The only way this is a statement about the environment is that we MUST burn it and that results in a carbon footprint greater than the collection’s- which ironically might lead us into a conversation about the materials used- of which 30% were recycled (faux fur, dyes, fabric and fiber selection, etc. might reveal a different truth to “sustainable” I’m guessing).

Moschino Fall 2020 certainly has shifted gears yet again, giving us a Victorian inspired collection featuring cleaver plays on the era with denim versions of 18th century trousers and needlework prints.
