Barbie met Tomb Raider in Fenty X Puma’s Spring/Summer 2018 runway show. The collection played on athleisure with a retro take on athleticwear: wind-breakers, track suits and shorts layered over cycling shorts, neoprine and diving suits turned catsuits, trendy off the shoulder dresses with long sleeves. The bad looks included the unflattering monokini- a maxi pad of a swimsuit- and the oversized hoodies and shorts…only Riri can rock that and not look drab. It worked when proportion was considered, and oversized was paired with fitted separates.
The color palette was sporty, with navy blue and orange; orange and yellow; pink and navy; and monocrome tonal greens, electric blue, and orange. Velour suits reminded us of the urban craze, with the styling sending home the point this collection was athleisure, sporty yet ready to wear: ankle strapped thong heels, wet suit high heeled boots, matching sneakers, wearable separates and tops, trendy clear outerwear, bondage inspired nylon strap harnesses and buckle closure details, and layered looks featuring mesh and bike shorts over bikini bottoms (underwear). The menswear was bland in comparison to the womenswear, which seemed more wearable and daring.
