Bibhu Mohapatra Fall/Winter 2016 New York Fashion Week NYFW MBFW FW16

Bibhu Mohapatra Fall/Winter 2016 New York Fashion Week  brought bondage to the East with Asian fabrics and garments contrasting harnesses and collar-inspired zipper details.  This isn’t the first show we’ve seen strong bondage and S&M references in NYFW FW16 shows- Nicopanda created very interested looks with this trend.  Trend? Yes, bondage has been trending for years, you’ve likely seen harnesses in your local BCBG Max Azria boutique or Forever 21 and not given it a second thought.  I’ve actually been warring bondage and leather culture inspired pieces like collars, cuffs, and harnesses myself, and infused the trend into some of my most recent fashion designs, which you’ll see soon enough so be sure to subscribe to my blog and YouTube channel.

The palette included red, black, white, a touch of blue in the black ombré, army green, nude, and a red/orange/ taupe/champaign horizontal stripe.  Graphic red and black cat eyes paired with gold brows,  bondage inspiration and o-ring collars, Asian inspired textiles, lace, open weave knits, silk, fur, and leather gave an unexpected glimpse into the edgy side of Bibhu Mohapatra for NYFW MBFW FW16.  There were a few gowns and dresses we’ll probably see on the stars, but my favorite was the horizontal striped skirt.
