What happens when cargo meets moto, and combat boots meet gladiator sandals? Something eye-catching, Balmain’s Spring/Summer ’16 show was on trend and fashion forward. Knits like you haven’t seen: jackets, dresses, blazers- this trend was slayed on the runway, although a knit dress can look a little wrong without something underneath. With androgyny becoming all the rage, it was interesting to see the masculine meet feminine, as in the gladiator-combat boots, the knitwear, even sequins: it gave a woman’s touch to menswear. It’s not as overdone as other designers’ attempts: the Balmain man is flamboyant, but not a glitter queen. He’s man enough to rock a cowl neck, a tiger blazer, a knit blazer, draped tops, and those shoes we’ve discussed: this guy dresses for himself. The safari took it to the street: browns and camel, cream and white, and black composed the palette. The looks featured moto-sweatpants, jumpsuits, leather pants, bags galore, shorts atop shorts, unique blazers, weaved leather, military jackets, and flat-brimmed caps. Olivier Rousting delivered on his first menswear collection, and seemingly served up some of his androgynous flair in a collection that was a breath of fresh air.
